Countstead stores inventory on your device and offers optional cloud synchronization. This policy explains how the app and website handle data.
In short
Countstead stores your inventory data in a local database on your device. Local use does not require an account. Your items, counts, and history are not transmitted to us unless you choose a feature that clearly requires an online service.
Who is responsible
Countstead is operated by Imdad Ismail in Sri Lanka. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
What is stored on your device
Your workspace holds items, locations, per-location balances, stock events, transfers, activity, low-stock thresholds, and up to one photo per item.
All of it lives in a local database on the device, protected by iOS data protection. Deleting the app removes that database.
Analytics
Countstead uses TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck GmbH, Germany) to understand which features are used, how actions turn out, and where errors occur. Events include interaction information and technical details about the app and device, such as app and iOS versions, device model, language and region, time zone, accessibility preferences, and session and usage statistics.
TelemetryDeck’s iOS SDK sends a hashed identifier associated with the device and a random session identifier. Countstead also attaches temporary random journey identifiers and event-order counters to relate actions within a journey. Rotating a journey identifier does not rotate the SDK’s hashed device identifier.
These events do not include your inventory content, email address, or Countstead account identifier. You can stop new usage-event recording in Settings → Privacy. Events queued before you switched it off may still be delivered.
Scanning a barcode does not query an external catalogue. The website uses no analytics or advertising trackers.
Camera
The camera can scan barcodes and QR codes or take a photo you choose to attach to an item. Scanned codes are decoded on the device and matched against your own inventory. Images used for scanning are not stored or sent. Item photos are handled as described in the Photos and Cloud sync sections.
Photos
You can attach one photo to an item. It is compressed to at most 1600 pixels on the long edge and stored locally alongside the rest of your workspace.
Cloud sync (optional, part of Countstead Pro)
Cloud sync is off by default and available with a Countstead Pro subscription. If you turn it on, your workspace — items, locations, balances, stock events, transfers, activity, and item photos — is synchronized to Countstead’s operator-hosted service, which stores its data on servers in Europe, so you can recover it after a reinstall or continue on a new device. Like most online services, the service is reached through a global network provider that may handle traffic outside Europe on its way to those servers.
You sign in with Apple; it is the only sign-in method in this release. Signing in creates a Countstead account identified by an Apple-provided identifier, and Countstead receives the email address Apple shares for your account — which, at your choice, can be Apple’s private relay address rather than your own.
Synced data is encrypted in transit and stored isolated per account. It is used only to provide sync to your own devices — never for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose. Turning cloud sync off stops synchronization; deleting your Countstead account removes your synced data from the service.
Purchases
If you use a paid feature, Apple processes the purchase and payment. Countstead does not receive or store your payment-card details.
RevenueCat helps the app retrieve products and determine whether Countstead Pro is active. RevenueCat may process an app-specific customer identifier, purchase and subscription status, product identifiers, and technical information needed to provide that service. RevenueCat does not receive your inventory records from Countstead.
The first time the app is opened, and again after you sign in, it asks Apple’s AdServices framework for an attribution token, and RevenueCat uses that token to learn from Apple whether the download came from an Apple Ads campaign and, if it did, which campaign, ad group, and keyword led to it. The result is stored with your RevenueCat customer record so Countstead can measure which campaigns lead to installs and subscriptions. This does not use your device’s advertising identifier, does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and needs no permission prompt.
Support ID and device registration
To help us answer support requests, the app automatically registers each installation with Countstead’s operator-hosted service. This happens whether or not you are signed in, and it does not depend on the usage-data setting in Settings → Privacy. The app sends a registration when it starts, when it returns to the foreground, and when your sign-in or purchase status changes, at most once every five minutes.
A registration contains a random identifier the app creates for this installation, from which the Support ID shown in Settings while you are not signed in is derived; a public key the app creates on the device to sign the registration; the app version and build number; the iOS version; the app language; and the purchase identifiers RevenueCat has used for this installation, including earlier ones the app has observed. The service also records when the installation was first and last registered, and how many registrations it refused because they were signed with a different key. A registration does not include your inventory, photos, or email address.
If you are signed in to a Countstead account, the app includes proof of your sign-in, and the service links the registration to that account. The link remains after you sign out. If more than one account signs in on the same installation, the registration is linked to each of them.
We use registrations only to find your installation, its app version, and its purchase identifiers when you contact us for support. Purchase identifiers are kept as the app reports them; they are leads for a support request and do not prove that a purchase is yours. Registrations do not give access to your data or to Countstead Pro, and they are not used for tracking or advertising.
A registration that the app has not updated for 400 days is deleted automatically, together with its purchase identifiers and account links. Deleting your Countstead account from inside the app also deletes every registration linked to that account and removes that account’s purchase identifier from any other registration.
Update checks
At most once a day, and whenever you tap Check for updates in Settings, the app asks Apple’s public App Store lookup service whether a newer version of Countstead is available in your App Store country. The request contains Countstead’s App Store identifier, your App Store country code and fixed technical headers. It carries no account, device, purchase or inventory identifier. Apple receives it like any other connection from your device, including your IP address, under Apple’s privacy policy. Countstead does not receive the request or its answer.
Getting your data out, and deleting it
You can export a full CSV package at any time, covering items, locations, balances, stock events, transfers, and activity, with a manifest describing the set.
You can delete your local workspace from within the app, and deleting the app removes the local database.
If you use cloud sync, you can delete your Countstead account from inside the app. Deletion runs automatically, without emailing support: your synced workspace data, account record, and sign-in identity are removed from the service; copies kept only for recovering the service after a failure are erased within 30 days, and the linked purchase-provider customer record is deleted as well. We retain only limited, non-identifying records needed to keep the deletion effective and to meet legal obligations.
Retention and deletion
Local inventory data remains on your device until you delete the workspace or the app. Synced data remains on Countstead’s service until you delete your account from inside the app. Purchase records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat under their respective policies and legal obligations. Recovery copies of the service’s database are kept for at most 30 days.
To request deletion of information controlled by Countstead, email [email protected]. We may need to retain limited records when required by law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the use of your personal information. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Children
Countstead is a business tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
