Support
The answers below cover what the app does today, and you can contact us if you need more help.
Common questions
- Do I need an account?
- No. Local use requires no account and no connection. You can create a workspace and start counting straight away.
- Does Countstead work offline?
- Yes, fully. Your workspace is a local database on the device, and every core action works with no connection.
- Does my inventory sync between devices?
- Cloud sync is optional, part of Countstead Pro, and off by default. You sign in with Apple; it is the only sign-in method in this release. When you enable cloud sync, your workspace and item photos synchronize with Countstead’s operator-hosted service so you can recover them or use them on another device.
- How large a workspace can cloud recovery bring back?
- Recovery after a reinstall or on a new device is sized for typical workspaces in this release: about 100 sync batches, roughly a 6 MiB download. A workspace beyond that ceiling stops with a clear error rather than loading a partial copy; recovery for larger workspaces ships in a later release.
- Can I delete my cloud account?
- Yes, from inside the app, and it completes automatically — no email required. Deletion removes your synced data, your account, and the linked purchase-provider customer record; copies kept only for recovering the service after a failure are erased within 30 days. Your local workspace on the device is not touched unless you delete it too.
- What happens when I scan a barcode?
- The code is read on your device and used to find an item you already track, or to prefill a new one. Countstead does not look codes up in any external catalogue, so scanning an unknown product will not fill in its name for you.
- Can I fix a mistake?
- Yes. A correction adds a compensating event. The original entry stays in the history rather than being rewritten, so the record of what happened remains accurate.
- What if two counts conflict?
- If a recount conflicts with other activity, Countstead surfaces the conflict rather than silently overwriting one side. Resolving it creates a new event; neither original is deleted.
- Can I import my existing spreadsheet?
- Yes, as CSV, up to 10,000 data rows per import. You map the columns, preview the result, and commit it as a single unit, so a failed import cannot leave you half-migrated.
- Can I get my data out?
- Yes. Countstead exports a full CSV package covering items, locations, balances, stock events, transfers, and activity, with a manifest describing the set.
- Does it handle fractional quantities?
- Yes, to three decimal places, so materials measured by weight or length work as well as countable units.
- Will I be notified when stock is low?
- Yes, with Countstead Pro. Set a threshold for each item and location. The free Low Stock view in Reports includes balances at or below it. With a threshold of 12, it lists 12 or fewer units; 13 stays off the list. For alerts on this device, turn on low-stock alerts in Settings and allow notifications. Choose immediate alerts or a daily or weekly summary. Quiet hours can delay immediate alerts. Stock checks run on your device, not on a server.
- Which devices are supported?
- iPhone and iPad, running iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. The interface is designed for iPhone first and adapts to iPad.
- Which languages is the app available in?
- English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean, and Indonesian. Pick the app language in Settings; it applies immediately.
- How do I get a refund?
- Countstead Pro is bought through Apple, and Apple handles refunds. To request one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account.
